Steel

Steel Construction is the most common construction material utilized in the mid-east region of the country.  Steel is used for single story as well as multilevel structures. Steel structures typically utilize wide flange beam, hollow structural sections and open web joists and trusses along with metal floor or roof decking.  Open web joists and trusses are common in roof framing construction.  Open web joists along with wide flange beams supporting a concrete slab, formed on metal deck is common floor construction for multilevel buildings.  A composite floor system consisting of wide flange beams with headed studs and concrete slab on a composite form deck is commonly used where longer spans are needed.  Steel framing is a strong and relatively light weight that is economical for long spans providing longer column spacing and heights than other construction types.   Steel structures can be erected quickly because the members are typically fabricated in a shop and bolted together in the field.
